|Board And Delegates Meetings|
The ASSDF has membership meetings; where the state square and round dance clubs send at least two (2) delegates to the meeting, to discuss various issues related to square and round dancing, and with the ASSDF. Every club that has paid their dues to the ASSDF for the current year (that is due Jan. 1 of each year), should send two (2) delegates (as noted above) for voting privileges. The ASSDF can NOT conduct business without club representatives. Clubs that have NOT paid their dues, and have NOT provided proof of insurance by Feb. 1 of that year, have ALL of their Club Information, and from the list of Callers And Cuers REMOVED from BOTH The Modern Square, and from the ASSDF Website...and they will NOT be allowed to have delegates or to vote at meetings. Also, note that ASSDF Officers, or callers and cuers can NOT serve as delegates at the meetings.
The 2019 Spring Delegates Meeting will be held at the Heber Springers dance location at the Rose Bud Community Senior Center, 5916 Highway 36 West, Rose Bud, Arkansas, on Friday, May 10, 2019, at 5pm. The ASSDF Board (Officers) meeting will start at 4pm, one hour prior to the Delegates Meeting. We realize that this may be a bad day and time, but it apparently was the only place we could get for a meeting before a dance...as the number of clubs in the state keeps declining.
The date and time for the 2019 Fall Delegates Meeting, to be held at the 2019 Fall Festival at Clinton, will likely be on Saturday, October 12...the time and location will be posted as soon as possible.
Other meetings may be held at other times during the year. They also have board meetings for the ASSDF Officers, so they can conduct business of the organization; including a meeting in either December or January to complete the change of officers for the new year.
While votes on issues may not always be unanimous, it is a chance for dancers to have their voices heard...and to discuss how to keep the hobby of square and round dancing alive.
Please note that you don't have to be a delegate to come just to vote. The ASSDF Board wants your input on what is happening with your State Federation. Those clubs who wish to place a bid for upcoming Fall Festival dances should prepare to present their bids at the Fall Festival meeting. Basically, if clubs don't submit a bid to host the Fall Festival, you may either see the event in a part of the state that you may not wish to travel to...or in the worst case scenario, no festival at all.

Basically, if you don't show up at the meeting to voice your opinion, and to vote...you will have no right to complain on the outcome of what transpires there. And, if no business is conducted because of a lack of members, the organization can not do what it needs to do...and if said organization has little or no support from its members, the organization could fold up/disband, and all the benefits of the organization would be lost.
No matter if it's a small or large club or organization, it's the members and workers behind the scenes that make things happen. The club duty square, and special dance hall decorations...let alone publication of The Modern Square (e-Edition or print edition, do NOT just ''happen by themselves''.
Now, while attending meetings may not be ones idea of a good time, it has to be done with ANY organization. And, even if you do attend, voice your opinion, and vote...even if that vote does not come out the way you wanted, it is still your duty to get behind the majority vote, in whatever was decided. Like it or not, ''Life is NOT Burger King...you can NOT always Have It Your Way'' (I can say that, as I worked for them for 5 years nearly 40 years ago in the Little Rock area).
