2021 Fall Festival Registration

Overview

The ASSDF has a yearly fall festival dance in a different Arkansas city, usually the second weekend of October, which is on the Columbus Day Weekend. The main dancing is on Friday afternoon and evening, and Saturday dances. On Saturday morning, there is the ASSDF Delegates Meeting, plus the afternoon and evening dancing. There's also line dancing, Door Prizes, a Teacup Auction, and Split The Pot, among other items, at the weekend. There may also be a Fashion Show on Saturday afternoon. At times, there is a Trail-End Dance on Thursday evening, separate from the festival itself, sponsored by a hosting club.

All clubs are requested to provide Gift Baskets for the dance, which will be auctioned off, with a minimum bid that they place on it. There may be used square dance items for sale at the festival...confirmation will be posted as soon as possible. If so, dancers receive 75% of the proceeds, with 25% going to the ASSDF.

NOTE THAT ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES OF ANY KIND ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED AT THE DANCE WEEKEND...in the Gift Baskets or otherwise. This is because having alcoholic beverages at a square or round dance or festival, is in VIOLATION of the ASSDF By-Laws. Square and Round Dancing are designed as HOLSUM, FAMILY ACTIVITIES, and it is the DUTY of all dancers to see that it REMAINS THAT WAY. There was an apparent miscommunication with the clubs and the gift baskets at the 2019 Fall Festival (some had wine, etc.)...and steps will be taken to see that doesn't occur in future years.

Note that Proper Square Dance Attire is REQUIRED at the evening dances...although casual attire is OK for the Friday and Saturday daytime dances, and daytime dance level workshops. Depending on participation, there may or may not be vendors at the weekend. If there is a Fashion Show, it's usually on Saturday afternoon, prior to the dinner break, before the evening dancing.

It's also worth noting that ''While visitors can watch the dance at no charge, the moment they step on the dance floor to dance, they become dancers...and are expected to pay the at door registration fee (for Friday and Saturday), and, if there's a Thursday Night Trail-In Dance, a separate fee, payable at the door. If not, they will be asked to leave the dance floor, and the premises''...because of liability and insurance issues.

2021 Fall Festival

There is a Trail-End Dance on Thursday night, with the actual festival will be Friday afternoon and evening, then Saturday morning, afternoon, and evening. Besides the dancing, there will also be workshops, as well as a Teacup Auction, Split The Pot, a Gift Basket Auction (NO ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES IN THEM), and possibly a Horse Race...the latter was at the 2019 Fall Festival in Clinton. For those who weren't there, ''a good time was had by all at the track''.

The deadline for Advance Registration, and requesting lodging is Sept. 30, 2021. After that date, the room rates will go back to the regular price, and be released to anyone who wants them. And, after that date, the registration fees also increase. So, please do NOT wait until the last minute to register. Note that if you had previously booked RV space or lodging, be sure to call to either cancel your registration.

Everyone has had to make sacrifices due to COVID-19, and since most dancers ''are in the vulnerable group'', the ASSDF Executive Board had no choice.

At the Virtual Delegates Meeting via Zoom on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020, the Delegates voted to have the 2021 Fall Festival in Texarkana...by a vote of 11 delegates for Texarkana, and 7 delegates for Clinton. So, updated fliers, as well as hotel information, will be placed back online as soon as possible. Finalization on the location of the 2022 Fall Festival will be done as soon as possible.

2021 Hotels, Location, And Weather

For the hotels, you will need to GUARANTEE the room with a credit or debit card. Be sure to mention that you're with Arkansas State Square Dancers Fall Festival or ASSDF, when making your reservations. As noted above, the deadline for registration at the ASSDF Rate is Sept. 30, 2021...because after that date, the rates go back to their original cost, and will be released to anyone wanting them. Note that prices do not include tax.

Many hotels are NON-SMOKING...if you smoke in a non-smoking room, you will be subject to a substantial cleaning fee (some hotels charge as much as $500, if not more). Non-smokers like myself, can NOT deal with being in a ''smoking room''.

As noted above, the delegates voted at the Virtual Delegates Meeting via Zoom on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2020, to have the 2021 Fall Festival in Texarkana. I just need to make minor modifications to the fliers, and will have these back online as soon as possible. The Hotel and RV Information will be placed back online as soon as possible as well.
