Due to the CoronaVirus, ALL ASSDF CLUBS IN ARKANSAS HAVE SUSPENDED DANCING UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Some cities have
had mid-evening and overnight curfews, precluding night-time activities...and I understand that monetary fines for curfew violations are rather
expensive.
However, as the COVID-19 restrictions are SLOWLY LESSENED, individual clubs may resume dancing again. This
decision is based on directives from Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, city and county governors and mayors, and the
Arkansas Health Department...plus when the respective facilities allow clubs to dance again. If dancers wish to dance, clubs may
REQUIRE folks to wear masks throughout the dance (they can wear gloves if desired), there may NOT be a duty square, and temperatures are taken of all who
wish to enter the hall. If dancers aren't feeling well, are leery of getting out, or don't want to wear masks, etc., they should stay home. The individual clubs and contacts
can be found here...and once the directives, and facilities owners allow
clubs to resume dancing, it is up to each of them to make the decision on the requirements. Regardless, PLEASE CALL BEFORE YOU TRAVEL!!
Note that if the data is WRONG in The Modern Square, it more than likely is also WRONG
on this page!! Please note that when you notify the Editor and Webmaster (yours truly) of the change, so that it can be updated/corrected in
The Modern Square.
If they fail to so, they are subject to REMOVAL from The Modern Square (including
Club Reports section of the original ASSDF Website, and the
new ASSDF Website...including, but not limited to pages with
Special Dances, Callers And Cuers,
Lessons, and Club Listings (this page). This REMOVAL, if required, will occur on March 1
of each year...to give time for:
1) The new slate of officers to assume their duties (they normally do so on January 1, or once the
change of officers meeting has taken place...sometimes, it's after the first of the new year.
2) Publication and receipt of the mailing of the print edition of the February issue of
The Modern Square, with a list of clubs that are subject to removal by March 1, if they don't make the
payment of dues, and get their insurance taken care of. This is noted in the By-Laws.
The clubs whose entries are removed do NOT have a vote at the ASSDF Delegates Meeting. Any such
votes from non-paying, non-member clubs, are NOT be counted in the final total...UNLESS they pay the dues PRIOR to the
start of the ASSDF Delegates Meeting.
With the removal of your club listing for non-payment of dues, it will appear as if your club has disbanded. If you are still in fact,
dancing...dancers will likely NOT come, because there is no listing for such. And, you obviously have to have both members and visitors to keep a
club going. As Webmaster, I do NOT want to add any more clubs to the In Memoriam page, unless
I absolutely have to.
If your club is not sure whether or not it has paid its ASSDF Member Dues for the current year, please contact the current ASSDF Treasurer, either
from The Modern Square, or from the ASSDF Officers page. Due to insurance and liability issues,
ALL CLUBS MUST HAVE INSURANCE, usually obtained through the United Square Dancers Of America. Failure to have
some kind of insurance at the dance, possibly opens up the members, officers, and their families to damaging lawsuits, if something happens at a dance.
With each day of the week listed, the order of the listing is the city where the club dances, the club name, the type of club (square, round, singles, couples
(partner required), open to couples and singles), square dance level (basic, mainstream, plus, advanced, or challenge...or round dancing (usually phases 2-6),
line dancing, time (dance times are in Central Time), location, caller or cuer, and club contact. Due to the economy, most, if not all clubs charge an admission
fee...usually $5 per person per dance...whether it is a regular dance or a special dance, and costs for a
Special Dance Or Festival are likely HIGHER. Please check with the club contact to verify the actual cost.
It is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED that you check with the contact person listed BEFORE TRAVELING to the dance...as some clubs may CANCEL at the
last minute for various reasons (weather, etc.), or for another clubs festival dance. It's very frustrating to drive a long distance to discover that a club
is ''dark''...or worse, the club has decided to fold/disband. A list of CHANGES/CANCELLATIONS, and a list of clubs that have had to disband is
located here. I've obtained the GPS locations of most of the dance sites, so for those who have GPS devices
(you can download related apps for your smartphones), that'll better help you find the location.
If there are weather concerns (tornadoes, hail, high winds, flooding, snow, ice, etc.) on the dancing day of the club...either call ahead to be sure the club
is dancing...or don't risk the drive in hazardous weather. For detailed Arkansas weather information...including forecasts, watches, warnings, and
advisories, click here.
During the summer months, some clubs may go to ''casual attire'', instead of square dance attire...or
the club may be DARK (they won't dance). Clubs may also CANCEL for various holidays...such as Easter, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day,
Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, and New Years Day...unless there is a New Years Eve Dance on that night.
Lastly, to better assist dancers in finding the location of the dance site, if the dance location is known, approximate GPS locations, courtesy of
this site, are listed. Most smartphones can get an app to provide a GPS location. Obviously, no data is given,
if the club notes ''call for dance location''.
This list ONLY includes clubs that are paid members of the ASSDF. Clubs who are NOT paid members, are NOT listed here...and
there are likely clubs in Arkansas...who, for whatever reason...have decided NOT to be a part of the ASSDF.
Clubs listed here are REQUIRED to pay a yearly membership fee to the ASSDF by the first of each year (January 1st), and mailing a check for the appropriate fee,
payable to the ASSDF, to the current ASSDF Treasurer that's listed in The Modern Square,
and on the ASSDF Officers page.
There are several clubs around Arkansas for your square and round dancing pleasure. The organizations are listed first, followed by clubs on the day of the week
that they dance, and finally by the city where they dance...scroll down to, then click on the desired entry. Note that they may dance every week of that day
of the month, or on alternating weeks. Some clubs have Guest Callers at this time.
