IMPORTANT INFORMATION!! PLEASE READ!!

With the CoronaVirus Concerns, since dancers were taught (as I heard one caller say it) ''AT&T -- reach out and touch someone''...I know many dancers are uneasy about getting out among other people...whether for dances at clubs, as well as Special Dances. An email blast awhile back to subscribers of the e-Edition...which includes this letter from the ASSDF Board (PLEASE READ, AND DISCUSS WITH YOUR CLUBS), and this file from the Centers For Disease Control. And, an information file from the United Square Dancers Of America is located here.

Due to the CoronaVirus, ALL ASSDF CLUBS IN ARKANSAS HAVE SUSPENDED DANCING UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. Some cities have had mid-evening and overnight curfews, precluding night-time activities...and I understand that monetary fines for curfew violations are rather expensive.

However, as the COVID-19 restrictions are SLOWLY LESSENED, individual clubs may resume dancing again. This decision is based on directives from Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson, city and county governors and mayors, and the Arkansas Health Department...plus when the respective facilities allow clubs to dance again. If dancers wish to dance, it is their option to wear masks (and gloves)...but obviously, if dancers aren't feeling well, or are understandably leery of dancing too soon, they should stay home. The individual clubs and contacts can be found here...and once the directives, and facilities owners allow clubs to resume dancing, it is up to each of them to make the decision on that.

Unfortunately, last minute changes to scheduled dances do sometimes occur, because of weather, health, or other issues. That's why no matter whether you dance to a local club, or travel a good distance to a dance, it is STRONGLY ENCOURAGED that you contact the person listed BEFORE TRAVELING to a dance. Clubs sometimes CHANGE their location, or CANCEL their dance that day, for various reasons (weather, etc.), hall conflicts/issues, holidays, or for other clubs Special Dances.

It can be VERY FRUSTRATING after driving a long distance to find that a club is ''dark'' (not dancing)...especially with the price of gasoline nowadays...never mind the stress with traffic, and the wear and tear on your vehicle!! In short, it's better to be safe than sorry, by calling ahead before you travel. This is especially true when severe weather (thunderstorms, tornadoes, flooding), or winter weather (snow, ice, etc.) affects an area. For Arkansas weather information, click here. If you're elsewhere in the United States or its territories, click here, then enter your zip code in the box, and click GO. You'll get a 7 Day Point Forecast for the area, from the National Weather Service Office serving it...with links to any current Watches, Warnings, and Advisories in effect (the link is from the National Weather Service in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Besides the club contact, you can also check the I Drive Arkansas website. For weather related road conditions, please call either (501) 569-2374 (in the Little Rock Metro Area), or Toll Free at (800) 245-1672. Note that in Arkansas, where there are road construction zones, the FINES DOUBLE IN WORK ZONES, WHEN WORKERS ARE PRESENT.

Note that clubs that are normally scheduled to dance on various holidays (as well as the days before and after these holidays)...such as Easter Weekend, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, or New Years Day, may be CANCELLED. The exception would be for clubs that have a New Years Eve Evening Special Dance, as they have in central Arkansas in years past.

If your club has to make a last minute change or cancellation...either in a regular dance, or a special dance...please contact me via the ASSDF Officers Page. A contact person will be listed for any updates...such as if a dance is rescheduled, plus any comments, if applicable. Note that the CANCELLATIONS section is BELOW the CHANGES section, so be sure to view both.

Lastly, some clubs will dance in casual attire during the summer months, to better cope with the hot weather...check with the club contact for information. For information on dealing with square dance emergencies, click here.

Dance Cancellations

While the clubs have been DARK since mid-March, due to COVID-19, as the COVID-19 restrictions are SLOWLY LESSENED, individual clubs may resume dancing again. The individual clubs and contacts can be found here. Regardless, PLEASE CALL BEFORE YOU TRAVEL!!

Arkansas can have episodes of severe weather, including tornadoes, large hail, damaging winds, and flash flooding...and occur any day of the year, at any time of the day or night. Plus, there is a risk of snow or ice during the winter months.

Please check with the various club contacts before traveling to a dance, to be sure that you don't ''waste a trip''. It's not worth risking your life due to hazardous weather, and road conditions...especially if there are areas of significant storm damage, flooding, or snow/ice along your travel route...never mind the fact that you could wreck your car, and you could be injured or killed in the wreck!!

Clubs That Have Disbanded

One always hates to note this, but some clubs have had to disband, due to a lack of membership, loss of dance facilities, etc. While clubs that have disbanded will be REMOVED IMMEDIATELY from the clubs page, the information will remain on this page for approximately 90 days (3 months) after the Webmaster has been made aware of such; but it's immediately placed here.

No clubs disbanded since June 1, 2020.
